Guidelines (Objectives and tasks)

MEPA aims to achieve the following:
- The police and CID officers taking the courses are to obtain the knowledge required for cross-border / international policing.
- They are to become acquainted with the legal and organisational conditions and the practical forms of police cooperation of the MEPA member countries.
- MEPA will supply them with social, economic and political background information and experience gained in the field of cross-border, international and transnational crime (especially criminal gangs, crime that uses modern technology, organized crime, white-collar crime and environmental crime).
- Officers will meet, stay in contact with and learn to trust colleagues from the member states so later information can be passed on quickly and unbureaucratically, thereby remaining within the existing rules and regulations
- The aim is also to reduce problems of communication and understanding and prejudice. Language problems make police communication difficult; common special terms for the police are absolutely necessary at a certain level.
- The Central European Police College is mainly a "place for learning practical police work", however it also aims at imparting educational and social skills. Participants not only will learn to think analytically, but also to adopt a critical view of structures, behaviour patterns and procedures in their police work.
- MEPA also aims at increasing social and communication competences and managerial skills.
- MEPA particularly aims at contributing to the process of European integration. Joint training and further qualification will accelerate the process of finding common European police standards and common organizational and legal measures, and this will contribute to harmonizing any conflicting interests the member countries may have.
